The Department of Homeland Security announced its intent to extend the REAL ID full enforcement date by 24 months, from May 3, 2023 to May 7, 2025. Read more.
Starting May 7, 2025, you must have a REAL ID compliant driver license/ID to fly within the U.S., unless you use a U.S. passport or another federally approved form of identification. As of that date, driver’s licenses that are not REAL ID compliant will no longer be accepted for domestic flights at any U.S. airport. (A valid passport will remain necessary for international travel.)
