Delta Extends Middle Seat Blocking Through April 30

Feb. 9, 2021

Delta Air Lines will continue its capacity controls, including blocking middle seats, through the end of April, the carrier announced. The new date is a one-month extension of the carrier's previous update to the policy. Delta chief customer experience officer Bill Lentsch in a statement said travelers "continue to tell us that more space provides more peace of mind" and that Delta will "continue to reassess seat blocking in relation to case transmission and vaccination rates." Other major U.S. carriers have either ended or begun phasing out the blocking of middle seats, though Alaska Airlines last month said it would continue blocking middle seats in premium cabins through May 31 to make them more attractive to travelers.
